Wysteria and Lúdico Havanese bred our girl CKC Ch Mylad's Pippa and my boy Baxter, AKC GCh, CKC Ch & Int'l Ch Pixc n'Seda Soakin Up The Rays in February. The litter is being raised here at Lúdico Havanese.
Pippa whelped two girls on April 12th. She was kind enough to whelp her puppies during the early evening.
On the left is Jasmine. She is a tri-colored red brindle. We are watching her color closely. Jasmine weighed in at 6-1/4 ounces.
On the right is Fiona. She is champagne with white markings. Fiona weighed in at 6-1/2 ounces.
Both Pippa and the puppies are doing very well!
Fiona and Jasmine started their early neurological stimulation exercises, also known as the super dog program, today. Exercises include: tactical stimulation (between toes), head held erect, head pointed down, supine position, and thermal stimulation. These exercises produce neurological simulations which typically don't happen during their early days of life. Benefits include: improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate), stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease. Jasmine flew through them without a peep. On the other hand Fiona was quite vocal and didn't appreciate it.
I also introduced them to their first scent outside of mom. It was a banana. Both seemed to like it.
Both puppies are continuing to gain every day. My goal is to have them double their weight their first week.
Fiona and Jasmine are one week old!
They have more than doubled their weight this week. Fiona weighed in at 13-3/8 oz and Jasmine weighed in at 13-1/4 oz.
They were introduced to their early neurological stimulation exercises this week. I also have introduced them to one scent a day. So far they have been introduced to banana, lemon juice, dirt, whole cloves and bark.
The girls also had their first spa day and had a pawdicure!
Princess Jasmine & Princess Fiona are 3 weeks old today! They will be getting their weekly paw-decure this afternoon. They were also wormed for the first time and did well.
Jasmine weighs in at 1 lb 9-1/8 oz and Fiona at 1 lb 8 oz. They can see and hear now and are up on all fours walking about. Their world has opened up!
This week it is the first time they have used of all their senses. They have been moved downstairs so that they can be exposed to a variety of noises (e.g. television, music, vacuuming, etc) and sights (e.g. changes in light levels, moving objects and vibrations). They will be exposed this week to sudden loud noises so they learn to react and go back to normal on their own. This is a must for a successful life as a dog!
The puppies will be placed on 7 different surfaces. So far we have had hardwood and marble and handling will increase.
The puppies have been growing these past few weeks. They have been introduced to raw food and dry food. They have had their first picnic outside and have had a few spa days (baths and paw-de-cures. They have had a lot of visitors and are now up to 57. We are almost to our goal of 100 people!
They turn 7 weeks on May 31st and both weight 2 lbs 9-1/8 oz.
The puppies turn 10 weeks on June 21st. They had their first vaccination, got micro-chipped, and had both their hearing and eyes tested. The puppies did great! The car ride into Seattle and then to Snohomish was long, over an hour each way. There was a little bit of fussing but overall they slept and were pretty content.
The puppies have interacted with over 130 people to date. This has included, men, women, teenagers, elementary school children and toddlers. They are pretty outgoing and love to be in the middle of things.I need to watch Fiona closely as she as an attitude! Here are a few photos of their past few weeks.
Between 10 and 12 weeks of age, the puppies were introduced to collars. They had no reaction at all. Not sure they like a leash yet but they are taking it in stride for the most part. The puppies were also introduced to a grooming noose. Jasmine, now Lindy, and Fiona didn't do too bad. They didn't like it but they don't particularly like grooming either.
The puppies had their 2nd vaccination and are now good for 3 years. As they are 12 weeks of age, they had their patella's checked and all is good. Dr. Cindy, my vet, said that she thought both puppies were very nice and could be considered 'show potential'.
